Artist Bio

Welcome to the official website of Stella Tush, Rwanda’s female Saxophonist.

5 years ago, Stella wouldn’t have dreamt of ever playing the saxophone, let alone own one. Having been inspired by a song, ‘The one He kept for me’ by Maurette Clarke Brown, Stella Tush embarked on the passionate journey of learning the saxophone. She has since mastered the instrument, and on listening to her music today, one receives an unexplainable calming effect, matching her personality.

Stella has previously shared a stage with the regional saxophone maestro- Isaiah Katumwa, started a trio band and has further managed to grace several events in the city including the 25th Liberation Day celebrations (Kwibohora), Transfrorm Africa Summit 2019, and Rwanda’s biggest jazz event- The Kigali Jazz Junction. Despite the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and how they have affected musicians, she still works with resilience to maintain her space as Rwanda’s female Saxophonist.

Today, she has started ‘Little Notes’, a platform that aims to nurture kids and adults into learning music and using it as a tool towards sustainable living. ‘Hearts and Voices’ is another initiative that aims to bring healing to people through music and story-telling, a cause motivated by the demise of her big sister.
